Be careful with bleaching creams for a woman’s beard
Again and again women resort to bleaching creams. The hair is not removed, but lightened, making it less noticeable. But this method can also be critical for the skin. "Women who want to remove their lady’s beard with a whitening cream should urgently note that the product must be tested on a small area of skin before using it. If there is an incompatibility with the selected product, bleaching must not be carried out under any circumstances" warns Schlossberger. "The cream for bleaching the beard may only be used if there are no skin symptoms, such as redness, at the test site after an exposure time of 48 hours. I generally advise against bleaching creams in this area."
Alternatively, you can try to lighten the hair a few nuances with lemon juice or cucumber juice. These home remedies are better tolerated than bleaching creams. If the skin burns or itches uncomfortably, this application should also be interrupted.
Depilatory creams: long-lasting, but not always well tolerated
And what about depilatory creams that dissolve the hair and the hair roots and thus ensure a smooth and long-term result? The same applies here: Regardless of whether you buy a product yourself or have it applied by a dermatologist, compatibility must always be tested on a small area of skin first. Because the active ingredients used, just like with bleaching creams, can lead to skin reactions.
If the depilatory cream is tolerated, the application has advantages: "In contrast to the usual depilatory products, special medicinal creams work deep in the skin on the hair roots. Applying this cream regularly can curb hair growth. The hair of the women’s beard then not only grows back more slowly, but also becomes much thinner" explains Schlossberger.
Laser only suitable for dark hair
Other ways to counteract the woman’s beard are the flash lamp and the laser. "This destroys the hair including its hair roots, which also prevents rapid regrowth" so Schlossberger and adds: "However, several sessions are always necessary for a satisfactory result and these procedures are only suitable for women with dark hair."

If in doubt, seek advice from your dermatologist
Conclusion: There are many possible uses in the fight against the lady’s beard. Which one is best for each woman depends very much on how sensitive the skin on the face is. A quick, smooth and long-term result is achieved by plucking, waxing and sugaring. Shaving, on the other hand, is quick, but the hair grows back quickly. In the case of chemical agents, compatibility must always be tested. The laser can ensure a permanent result, but several sessions are required here. If you are unsure, you can simply try a few methods for at home or seek advice from a dermatologist.
The higher the temperatures, the shorter the clothes. So that no fur is visible on the legs, the hair has to be removed. But which methods ensure smooth legs?
Shaving is quick, inexpensive and painless – unless you cut yourself – and it’s easy to do yourself, says Professor Philipp Babilas from the Regensburg Skin Center, listing the advantages of the method. Contrary to popular belief, shaving does not result in increased hair growth, explains Babilas, who is also a member of the professional association of German dermatologists. But: the razor has to straighten the legs every few days or even daily.
Inflammation often occurs in women with thick hair
After shaving, the hair has a sharp cut edge, so it can poke in skin folds in particular – small pimples can appear, explains Babilas. With this method there is also the risk of ingrown hair – and, as a result, inflammation. Women with thick hair are more likely to have these problems than those with thin hair. That is why Barbara Fehrenbach from girls from thialand the Federal Association of German Cosmeticians (BDK) advises using foam while shaving and then caring for the legs with a moisturizing lotion.
Skin irritations often occur with creams
With the creams – as with shaving – only the hair on the surface is removed, explains Fehrenbach. That happens with chemistry. "You practically etch it away" describes Susanne Blair, head master of the beauticians’ guild in Bremen. Because it causes skin irritation in many women, the two beauticians think nothing of this method. Babilas sees it a little differently: The irritation is a big disadvantage. "If someone tolerates this, it is a good practice" says the dermatologist.
Apply cream after epilation
During epilation, the hair and its roots are removed – usually with an electrical device that nicks the hair in a kind of metal shaft and pulls it out. The device is relatively easy to use yourself at home, says Fehrenbach. The hair that grows back is soft. This eliminates the problem of piksen. The legs remain smooth for several days to weeks – depending on the individual hair growth. But: "Epilation is very painful" says Blair. That is why you should treat your skin to a peeling every now and then and apply lots of cream. But not before epilation: Then the skin must be free of oil.
Sugar paste gentler than wax
With hot wax and strips of fleece, the hair is pulled out against the direction of growth. It is usually painful. In addition, there is a risk that a lot of hair will tear off, says Fehrenbach. If you want to grow yourself, the skin should be stretched well. When waxing, the hair should be around four to five millimeters long.
With sugaring, instead of wax, a sugar paste comes on the legs – that should be gentler. "The paste binds more to the hair than to the skin" says Fehrenbach. Since the hair is pulled out in the direction of growth, you can get it out even when it is one to two millimeters long, explains Blair.
Lasers are only suitable for women with dark hair
With lasers, the hair is removed with high-energy light. "This light is designed to interact with the pigment in the hair follicle" explains Babilas. The pigment heats up and this destroys the hair root. Nevertheless, some of the hair grows back – but this could take months to years. However, side effects – such as inflammation – rarely occur. This method is more suitable for women who have thick and dark hair. Because the laser does not recognize white and light blonde hair. The costs per treatment are considerable: depending on the surface, each session can cost between 60 and 400 euros. Often three to four treatments are necessary.

Beware of burns
Very important: the treatment belongs in the hands of a doctor. If used incorrectly, damage such as burns can result. If you have sick skin, you should always speak to a dermatologist before trying any form of hair removal.

A strong man’s breast is incredibly attractive to women. If women want to lean on it, nowadays they are increasingly finding a well-shaven, smooth version instead of a rough bush. While chest hair was considered particularly masculine in the 1970s, 40 percent of men now remove it. Whoever reaches for the razor here has to do it every day, otherwise the bristle chest threatens to scratch her delicate face.
Cream problem with chest hair
Most razors give up on thick chest hair and thick hair. Another method of depilation, the removal of the hair above the hair root, is using a depilatory cream. However, since men’s hair is usually quite strong, the creams often do not work sufficiently. A longer-term method of hair removal is epilation.
With an epilator, the hair and its roots are removed mechanically. Here you have to grit your teeth, because the hair is surrounded by rotating discs and removed suddenly – not for wimps. An aftershave should be used after use to cool the skin and prevent pimples from developing. Disadvantage: When epilating, hair grows in quickly and hair roots can become infected.
Gentler methods are sugaring (with sugar syrup) and waxing (warm wax). The advantage of waxing: thanks to the honey-based warm wax "the pores open and the hair, including the hair bulb, can be removed more gently" explains Janine Ludwig from the Berlin waxing studio cera wax.
The men are still in the minority with 20 percent, "But compared to the last few years, men are more and more daring. There is an increase, especially in the summer, especially for the back" so Ludwig.
Hairless trend
The trend in body hair is contrary to facial hair. Where the trend towards the three-day beard and full beard increases, body hair seems to disappear more and more. Evil tongues assume that the razor manufacturers provoke this with a wide range of products. The fact is: Whereas 38 percent of men shaved their armpits in 2008, 54 percent said they did so in 2013 and that cannot be due to an oversupply of great shaves.
Janine Ludwig confirms: "The body region that is mostly depilated in men is the back and shoulder girdle, followed by the genital area, chest, stomach, armpits, but the nose is also increasingly desired." Ludwig recommends those who opt for waxing "Avoid sunbathing 24 hours in advance. In addition, the skin in the body area to be treated should not be creamed. This allows our warm wax to adhere better."
Smooth thanks to the laser
Light pulses have a more radical and, above all, longer lasting effect than waxing. With the so-called "Intelligent Optical Sapphire Technology" (INOS) and "Intensed pulsed light" (IPL) work by professional providers such as Hairfree and Laderma. Controlled light impulses are emitted onto the hairy areas of the skin. The light energy reaches the hair follicle in the form of heat via the melanin in the hair. This becomes deserted and new hair can no longer form. Expect six to eight treatments to stay hair-free. The prices range from 50 euros for a simple treatment to several hundred euros.
For use at home there are devices with IPL technology, such as the "Lumea IPL" from Philips.
